EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

First of all,what are emotions?What comes to your mind when you hear the word emotions ?You probably get an image of a sad person ,a happy person or a flash of a past emotion you once experienced comes to mind. Well,An emotion is A natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one’s circumstances, mood, or relationships with others.It is a sensation ,a feeling or reaction .It can either be negative or positive.

Having laid the foundation on emotions lets look at emotional intelligence.This way we get to know how our emotions affect the various aspects of our lives.

WHAT IS EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE?

Emotional intelligence or EI is the ability to understand and manage your own emotions, and those of the people around you. People with a high degree of emotional intelligence know what they’re feeling, what their emotions mean, and how these emotions can affect other people.

Have you heard of this word before?If you have ,what comes to mind ?I’ll give you a case scenario of what came to my mind the first time I heard this word .A speaker did mention it to us on a mentorship program and for sure she did a good job with the explanation as this word stook with me and deep within my mind,I’d see incidences of people expressing different emotions or even how I reacted to a certain situation.How was the behavior?! was it too radical or was emotional intelligence portrayed? For intance ,someone has taken something belonging to me at a time I really needed it ,I don’t like how I reacted to such a situation….instead of listening to them and knowing why they had to take it, I was out here just wildin’ and not even a part of me would want to litsen to the explanation they had to give ,……. Well ,I was not being wise with my emotions Yeah, I was pissed off but did i have to pour it all out on the person? Well thats why I want us to expound more on this topic so that we can learn on how to be intelligent with our emotions!

We will be able to explore every nitty gritty on this topic and am sure by the end of the series we will have learnt so much!
